QUETTA: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman said on Monday that parliament was the supreme institution of the country and that all institutions should stay in their domain and not interfere with work of other institutions.

The leaders of the PkMAP and the JUI-F were speaking at a gathering orgnaised in connection with the 46th death anniversary of Pashtun nationalist leader Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai. They criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government and said it had failed in solving problems of the country. They said the government must resign and called for holding fresh elections in the country.

The leaders of the two parties said that they had no fight with institutions, but they just wanted all institutions of the country to stay their domain and not to interfere with the work of other institutions. Mr Achakzai criticised the Balochistan government, questioning its legitimacy. He said the chief minister should be asked as to who had brought him to power. He threatened that he had the power to paralyse the provincial government within a month. “Pakistan has a constitution and everything is clearly written in it. In the constitution, the parliament has been declared the supreme institution of the country,” he said.

“There should be no interference in politics from any institution. We will not allow that to happen. Those who change loyalties are now declared loyal and those who do not are called rebels. This is a wrong policy,” the PkMAP leader said. “We are ready to salute those who accept the Constitution of the country. As per Constitution, the people have the right to resources of their provinces,” he said.
